Stitch Classification

What is Stitch?

A stitch is one unit of thread resulting from repeatedly passing a strand or strands or loop or loops of thread into or through a material at uniformly spaced intervals to form a series of stitches.

Different Stitch classes

There are total 7 classes. They are:            
  1. ·         100- Chain Stitch
  2. ·         200- Hand Stitch
  3. ·         300- Lock Stitch
  4. ·         400- Multithread thread chain stitch (doubled lock stitch)
  5. ·         500- Overedge Stitch
  6. ·         600- Flat Seam Stitch
  7. ·         700- Single thread Lockstitch

What is Seam?

A seam is a joint consisting of a sequence of stitches uniting two or more pieces of material(s) and is used for assembling parts in the production of sewn items.

Different types of Seam Classes

As per Federal Government Standard 751a there is total 6 classes. They are:
Four Seam Classes-
  1. ·         Superimposed Seam
  2. ·         Lapped Seam
  3. ·         Bound Seam
  4. ·         Flat Seam
