You may be heard about the garments that changes color using the sun’s UV rays, or even heat.........
But you ever heard about the garment which changes its color when its stretched????????
Thanks to Materials scientists at both Harvard University as well as the University of Exeter in the UK, a new fabric is being added to the family of textiles.Inspired by nature, the researchers identified and replicated the unique structural element that create the bright Iridescent Blue color of a typical plant's fruit.
“Our new fiber is based on a structure we found in nature, and through clever engineering we’ve taken its capabilities a step further,” says lead author Mathias Kolle, a postdoctoral fellow at the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS). “The plant, of course, cannot change color. By combining its structure with an elastic material, however, we’ve created an artificial version that passes through a full rainbow of colors as it’s stretched.”
Who can be benefited from this invention?????
The textile has a wide range of potential uses, from packaging to fashion.
This could definitely be an interesting material for activewear designers- changing color with movement and muscle tension. Though this fabric is not available yet, the process will eventually be able to be scaled up to suit industrial production.
