Why to use Tools for Pattern Making?
Like in any of activity, using proper tools make the work
easy, accurate and more enjoyable. In pattern making also, you will be fitting
the bodies, making muslin's, drafting patterns and doing other activities which
needs some of tools which makes it easier.
Some pattern making tools:
Awl
An awl is a pointed tool with a wooden handle used to pierce small holes such
as to indicate apex in a pattern.

Hip Curve
The hip curve ruler is a metal 24 inches
or 61 cm ruler that is shaped into curve at one end; used to curve hip lines on
skirt and pants.

L-square
L square is a metal ruler with one side
longer than the other; sides form an "L" as the name implies; used to
draft sloppers and patterns. The L ruler is to establish length on patterns and
sloppers.

Notcher
A notcher, a hand punching tool which
produces a 1/16 (0.2) nick in paper which used to establish notches at the
outer edge of seam when pattern is completed.

French Curve
A french curve is a plastic tool shaped into a curve and
one end. It is used to mark armholes and necklines.

Scissors are used to cut out the patterns & fabrics.

Seam Ripper
It is used for taking out the
basting stitches when we move for the muslin fitting into the pattern drafting
stage.

Tracing Wheel
To take the markings from the muslin
stage to the pattern making stage, this tool will pierce through the paper and
leave behind marks to draft with a mechanical pencil.

Eraser
It is used to erase the pencil marks from
